Owl is designed to help people meet through real profiles, mutual interest, chat, and live video. This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect, how we may use that information, when we may share it, and the choices available to users.
By using Owl, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you should not use the app or related services.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use Owl, we may collect the following categories of information:
- Account information, such as your name, username, sign-in method, email address, user ID, and account identifiers.
- Profile information, such as age, gender, interests, bio details, photos, videos, preferences, language, and region.
- Content you provide, such as photos, profile videos, messages, support requests, reports, and other information you choose to share.
- Interaction information, such as likes, passes, matches, blocks, reports, chat activity, and video call-related metadata.
- Device and usage data, such as device type, operating system, app version, language, crash logs, diagnostics, performance data, and general app activity.
- Purchase or subscription status connected to your Apple App Store transactions, such as whether your membership is active.
- Advertising and analytics data, if ads or analytics are enabled, such as device identifiers, ad interactions, and usage events.
3. Camera, Microphone, Photos, and Permissions
Owl may request access to your camera, microphone, and photo library so you can create a profile, upload photos or videos, send media, or use live video features.
- Camera access may be used for profile photos, profile videos, face-related safety checks, or live video calls.
- Microphone access may be used for live video calls, voice features, or other communication features.
- Photo library access may be used when you choose to upload or select profile photos or other media.
You can manage these permissions through your device settings. Some Owl features may not work correctly if required permissions are disabled.
4. Location and Region Information
Owl may use general location or region information, such as your country, region code, language, or approximate location, to support profile discovery, improve relevance, enforce safety rules, and operate the service.
Unless clearly requested by a feature and allowed by you through device permissions, Owl does not require precise GPS location to operate basic profile, matching, chat, or video features.
5. Messages, Matches, and Video Calls
Owl may process information related to matches, requests, chats, and video calls so the app can provide communication features, maintain safety, and troubleshoot technical issues.
Messages and related chat data may be stored so conversations can be delivered, displayed, moderated when reported, and supported across app sessions.
Live video calls are used to connect users in real time. Owl does not intentionally record or store live video call content unless a feature clearly says so, you provide content yourself, or recording is required for safety, legal, or support reasons where permitted by law.
6. How We Use Information
We may use information to provide and improve Owl, personalize your experience, and support safety.
- To create and manage accounts, profiles, and matches.
- To power profile discovery, chat, requests, and video features.
- To process likes, passes, matches, reports, and blocks.
- To review reports, investigate abuse, and enforce community rules.
- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, spam, misuse, or safety risks.
- To analyze performance, troubleshoot issues, and improve reliability.
- To manage subscriptions, membership access, customer support, and service communications.
- To show, measure, or improve advertising if ads are enabled in the app.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
7. Firebase, Apple, AdMob, and Third-Party Services
Owl may use Firebase, Google services, Apple services, AdMob, analytics tools, crash reporting tools, notification services, moderation tools, hosting providers, and similar third-party providers where applicable.
These services may process information on our behalf to help with authentication, database storage, file storage, hosting, push notifications, app stability, diagnostics, analytics, subscriptions, moderation, advertising, or other app operations.
Third-party services operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Where applicable, Owl may rely on those services to securely support the experience.
8. Advertising and Analytics
Owl may use analytics and crash reporting tools to understand app performance, fix bugs, improve features, and measure general usage.
If advertising is enabled, Owl may use advertising partners such as Google AdMob to show ads, limit repeated ads, measure ad performance, and help keep some features available. Advertising partners may process device identifiers, usage events, coarse location, ad interactions, and similar data according to their own privacy practices and applicable laws.
If you purchase or use a membership that includes an ad-free experience, we may use your subscription status to remove or limit ads inside the app.
9. Subscriptions and Purchases
Owl may offer auto-renewing subscriptions or other in-app purchases. Payments, billing, renewals, refunds, and cancellation are handled by Apple through the App Store.
Owl may receive and store subscription status information, such as whether your membership is active, expired, canceled, or renewed, so we can unlock or restrict membership features.
Owl does not receive or store your full payment card details. Payment information is processed by Apple according to Apple's own terms and privacy practices.
10. Safety, Moderation, Reports, and Blocking
Owl may use account details, profile content, reports, chat metadata, uploaded media, interaction signals, device or usage information, and related safety signals to review safety concerns, moderate content, and take action on rule violations.
Report and block features are intended to help protect users and maintain a safer environment. If you report another user, we may review relevant account information, content, and interaction details connected to the report.
We may restrict, suspend, or remove accounts that appear to violate our Terms, create safety risks, or abuse the platform.
11. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following situations:
- With service providers that help us operate Owl, such as hosting, database, storage, analytics, crash reporting, notifications, moderation, advertising, and support providers.
- With Apple or payment-related services where needed to process subscriptions, verify purchase status, handle refunds, or comply with App Store requirements.
- With other users as part of the app experience, such as your profile information, photos, interests, match status, and messages you choose to send.
- When required by law, legal process, regulation, safety investigation, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of Owl, our users, or others.
- In connection with a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, where permitted by law.
12. Data Retention
Owl may retain information for as long as necessary to operate the service, provide app features, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, support billing records, investigate safety or abuse concerns, and enforce our Terms.
Retention periods may vary based on the type of data and the reason it was collected. For example, account information may be kept while your account is active, messages may be kept to provide chat features, and safety records may be kept longer where needed to prevent abuse or comply with legal obligations.
When information is no longer needed, we may delete, anonymize, or securely retain it as required or permitted by law.
13. Account Deletion and Privacy Requests
You may request account deletion, access, correction, or other privacy-related help by contacting support@owlapp.online. If the app includes an in-app account deletion option, you may also use that feature.
After an account deletion request, some information may be deleted, anonymized, or retained where necessary for legal, safety, billing, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or platform integrity reasons.
Deleting the Owl app from your device does not automatically cancel Apple App Store subscriptions. You must manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID subscription settings.
14. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
However, no internet or mobile app service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for using Owl carefully, protecting your account access, and reporting suspicious activity.
15. International Data Processing
Owl and its service providers may process, store, or transfer information in countries or regions other than where you live. These locations may have privacy laws that differ from the laws in your country or region.
Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards or lawful mechanisms to support international data processing.
16. Children's Privacy
Owl is not intended for children or anyone under 18. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to use the app. If we become aware that an underage user has provided information, we may remove the account and related data where appropriate.
17. User Choices
Users may have choices regarding profile details, communication preferences, device permissions, subscriptions, and account settings.
- You can update certain profile information within the app.
- You can manage camera, microphone, photo, notification, and other permissions in your device settings.
- You can use reporting and blocking tools to control your interactions.
- You can manage or cancel Apple App Store subscriptions through your Apple ID subscription settings.
- You may contact support regarding account access, privacy requests, or deletion questions.
18. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we update it, we may change the effective date above. Continued use of Owl after a policy update means you accept the updated Privacy Policy, where permitted by law.
